HayHay ("we", "our", or "us") operates the HayHay mobile application. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information. By using HayHay, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information when you use HayHay:
- Account information: When you register, we collect your email address, username, and password (stored securely via Firebase Authentication).
- Profile information: Optional details you provide such as a display name, bio, location, and profile photo.
- Camera and photo library access: HayHay requests access to your camera and photo library solely to allow you to record or upload short video or photo proof of completed challenges. This content is stored in Firebase Storage and displayed to other users as part of normal app functionality.
- User-generated content: Photos and videos you submit as task proof, which are stored in Firebase Storage.
- Activity data: Tasks you complete, votes you cast, followers, following, points earned, and interactions within the app.
- Device and usage data: Basic technical data collected automatically by Firebase, such as device type, operating system, and app usage patterns, used to maintain and improve the service.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the HayHay app and its features
- Display your profile, content, and activity to other users
- Process votes, award points, and manage the leaderboard
- Send in-app notifications (e.g. task approved, new follower)
- Enforce our community guidelines and respond to reports
- Improve and develop the app over time
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell or rent your personal data. We may share information in the following limited cases:
- Other users: Your username, profile photo, public content, points, and activity are visible to other HayHay users as part of normal app functionality.
- Service providers: We use Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Storage, Cloud Functions) to operate the app. Firebase processes data on our behalf under Google's privacy terms.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or property of HayHay or its users.
4. Data Retention
We retain your account and activity data for as long as your account is active. Proof photos and videos submitted for tasks are automatically deleted from storage after 24 hours. If you delete your account, your personal data is removed from our systems within a reasonable period.
5. Children's Privacy
HayHay is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
6. Content Moderation
HayHay takes the safety of its community seriously. We moderate user-generated content through the following process:
- User reporting: Any user can report inappropriate content or abusive users directly within the app using the report button on posts and profiles.
- Blocking: Users can block other users to prevent seeing their content.
- Review: All reports are reviewed by the HayHay team within 72 hours. Content that violates our Terms of Service is removed and the responsible account may be suspended or permanently banned.
- Zero tolerance: We have zero tolerance for objectionable content including but not limited to nudity, violence, harassment, or illegal activity.
7. Security
We use industry-standard security measures including Firebase's built-in security features, Firestore security rules, and encrypted authentication. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access and update your profile information at any time through the Settings screen
- Delete your account and associated data through Settings → Delete Account
- Contact us to request deletion of specific data
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, you may have additional rights under GDPR or UK data protection law, including the right to data portability and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
9. Third-Party Services
HayHay uses the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:
- Google Firebase — authentication, database, storage, and cloud functions
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of HayHay after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. For significant changes, we will notify users through the app.
